Heading into a new launch, venture, quarter or year can be laden with various emotions. Overwhelm. Excitement. Fear. Just the thought of all the small steps in between can lead you to other emotions such as confusion, defeat, and delirium.
With all of these emotions flying all over the place, most business owners will just throw in the towel and quit with their launches. Or, they will continue suffering in their struggle by themselves. Suffering in silence.
Why should you when you don’t have to?
There’s a process that I started years ago with my business to try to alleviate those feelings and the eventual lull that followed. I would initiate this process before I would launch a new process, course, or quarter. It would help me see clearly what I needed to do next, what previously worked (or what wasn’t so successful), what resources I need, and so on.
Also, it would help me to stay fully aware of what my intentions are, what my purpose is, what my desired outcome is and what the process for that desired outcome needs to be.
As I started using this process and finding success with it in my business and personal life, I started using it with my clients. During our launch debrief meetings or quarterly prep meetings, we would use this process to learn how we can build, strengthen and grow their processes, courses, business, and revenue.
I call this game-changing process Review Before You Pursue
Today, I want to share with you how you can apply this process to 4 important areas of your business: Your goals, processes, automations, and teams.
Your Goals
All of us have desires and ambitions that we want to accomplish when we start our businesses or ventures. In doing so, it’s only logical and natural for us to set goals for ourselves to keep ourselves on track and hold ourselves accountable.
But, then life happens.
We get distracted or something derails us and we lose focus of the main vision or purpose. Using the Review Before You Pursue process questioning can help you get your mindset and team back on track and realign your goals before you pursue your next venture.
Recently, I shared an IGLive with my audience about this very topic. I covered the 6 areas of your goals that you need to review before you pursue the next phase of your goals.
They are:
- Intention
- Desired Outcome
- Purpose
- Vision
- Expectation
- Data & Process

It’s imperative that when you are looking back on the previous goal or activity and you’re analyzing these six areas, that you are 100% honest with yourself. Don’t sugarcoat it! Because reality didn’t sugarcoat it for you.
If you launched a course and it did not resonate with your audience, be real with yourself as to why it did not. Own the fact that you did ask your audience for their input. Accept that you dialed in the copy. Accept responsibility that you strayed away from the vision and core value of your business.
Doing so will help you make the necessary adjustments to make your next launch, venture or endeavor purely epic.
Processes
Since the beginning of time, we’ve operated off of a system of order. It’s seen in nature, our bodies, our lives and in our businesses. It’s essential to success. Without it, there would be chaos.
So, if there is a breakdown in your processes, we must ask ourselves a few questions.
- Where along in the process is there a breakdown?
- Why was there a breakdown?
- Was the breakdown system or personnel related?
- How can we fix it?
- Who is responsible for the oversight of this process?
- What systems and/or team members are involved in this process?
- What resources are needed to fix this issue?
- Can this issue be replaced with a simpler process?
- How can this process ensure a better experience for the client?
- Will this process enhance and strengthen my relationship with my client?
Once you have answered these questions, you can then update your Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Make sure that you keep your processes and procedures streamlined and as simple as possible. The more complicated that you try to make them, the harder they are to follow and the more opportunity you give humans and technology to fail you.
Automation
If you have evergreen course or processes that include automation, you must review those tools regularly to ensure your products are reaching your audience in the manner you’ve intended. Especially before you began using, replacing or implementing another system/tool.
In my second episode of this series, I discussed this topic and shared 4 ways you can improve the automation of your course.
Those four ways are:
- Ask your previous students about their online experience
- Check for software updates to come
- Streamline and simplify your automation process
- Utilize 3rd party apps like Zapier

Team Members
It’s inevitable to happen. No matter what you do. No matter how great they are. No matter how great you are. It’s gonna happen. There’s going to be a breakdown between you and your team.
The question is: When it happens, how do you review and pursue the proper course to get back on track?
In the final episode of the Review Before You Pursue series, I tackle 4 causes that could have led to the breakdown and how to properly move forward in pursuit of peace and prosperity in your business.
Those four causes are:
- Miscommunication
- Failure to articulate the vision
- Lack of clarity
- Lack of respect
